GRADE 8 ENGLISH
Welcome to Grade 8 English. The curriculum this year will be based on the Common Core Standards of English Language Arts for this grade:
(refer to http://www.cde.ca.gov/re/cc/ ) . The strands are familiar to you: Reading, Writing, Language Conventions, Listening and Speaking and Research/Inquiry.
To achieve proficiency in these grade 8 English standards, it is very important that you:
1. Copy the Daily Agenda and Homework DAILY
a. ABSENT? Go to <http://www.33heinemann.weebly.com> to copy the Daily Agenda and
Homework and follow-up accordingly
b. Make up work when absent ASAP; come in to Room 33 for help or missed information before
school, during lunch or after school
2. Come to class every day with necessary materials and completed assignments
a. RECOMMENDED MATERIALS:
- AGENDA planner
- binder (about 1-inch)
- 5 dividers
- lined, 3 - holed punched, white filler paper (8 1/2" X 11")
- pencils, dark blue or black pen
- Jane Schaffer writing pens (blue, black, green red)
- highlighter
- current assignment(s)
3. Read 30 minutes or longer DAILY (re: independent novel reading, not school assignment readings)
4. ALWAYS keep a current Agenda and keep assignments current as well
5. Participate in class activities and discussions
a. Ask pertinent questions
6. Complete all work on time
7. Maintain an organized class notebook
8. Should you need it, seek help from Mrs. Heinemann ASAP
